X-Rays from 11-13-13 and 12-09-13
I was going through my emails today and I found Misty’s X-rays, they were taken about a month apart.
This first one is from Nov 13 and you can see the mass as well as a small divot in the bone of her leg, which made the vets suspect that it was growing into her bone.
The second X-ray was on Dec 9 2013, and it shows the mass has thickened. Â The vets said it was bigger but I have a hard time seeing any difference size-wise. Â It was at that point starting to sort of wrap around her leg though, which I think you can’t see because that would be obscured by the bones. Â The divot is still clearly there and I think I can see a second groove starting to form maybe.
I think I have a copy of her ultrasound somewhere, when I find it I will post it.

I would say that the mass has definitely grown by December. If you look at it in comparison to her wrist, to that pad that juts out…in November the mass didn’t stick out as far, but in December it stuck out further.
Regardless, thanks for sharing these! I could look at X-Rays all day. I didn’t finish tech school, and Radiology was a tough class, but it was super fun. If you find the ultrasound, and you don’t mind sharing, I’d love to look at it, just to look!
How does Misty feel now that her sutures are out? I remember for Steve it was like taking a deep breath. The itchiness was all gone…ahhhhhhh…so much better! Back to my regularly scheduled grooming program!

Cool, thanks for pointing that out with your trained eye. Before posting the X-rays here, I had never seen them together on the same screen, and when I was trying to compare them I was flipping back and forth between the two. I also never thought to compare them to the toe sticking out – I was trying to use the leg bones as a reference. Seeing them side by side, and comparing the mass to the toe, you are right – I can definitely see the difference. It certainly was noticeably bigger by the time she had her surgery, that was for sure.
I am sure that she feels good having the stitches gone. I know when I had stitches they pulled uncomfortably and the ends sticking out were prickly. Maybe the absence of the stitches is why she was so eager to spend time outside walking around. She went around and around and around outside the house last night, and then probably spent a good 45 minutes lounging in the grass while I did yard work. She seems to be sleeping comfortably, but she has been doing that pretty much all along.
She went outside with me this evening when I was grilling some dinner and seemed to be enjoying it until the wind started gusting – that scared her and she went back inside.

Ouuuuuuch. So what was the medical term for the divot & mass at this point in her diagnosis?

They were pretty sure it was cancer because of the way it had grown, and if they used a medical term for the divot I don’t remember it. They just pointed to it and told me that it looked like it was growing into the bone. I believe that Dec 9 was the date they took the second aspirate so it was shortly after that when we were able to name it sarcoma.
