Misty Grey

She has things to do, like occupying sunbeams, drinking out of the bathroom sink, and being beautiful – on four legs, or three!

Misty is Missing

Filed under: Uncategorized — ddmckenna at 10:08 pm on Thursday, July 16, 2015

Two weeks ago yesterday I was sitting by the sliding glass door keeping an eye on Misty while she took her ease outside in the back yard – something we do often, since she cannot be a true in-and-out cat any more. One minute I saw her snoozing there and was talking with my mom and then I looked out the window again and she was gone. I went all around the neighborhood calling her and shaking her bag of treats, but she was nowhere to be found.

Since then I’ve posted flyers, paid a phone service to call my neighbors, stuffed flyers in mailboxes up and down my street, called/facebooked/emailed all the animal shelters and animal control and vets, and there has still been no sign of her. I even called Search and Rescue because someone told me that sometimes they will come look for lost pets if their dogs need practice/training, but they didn’t ever call me back.

I cannot imagine what happened to her that night, but it doesn’t seem like it could possibly have been anything good. People are telling me stories of animals that were returned after being missing for weeks or months, so I am not giving up hope. But I would be silly not to realize it is probably a long shot, particularly because of her age and need for medication.

She was only just starting to gain back some weight after her most recent bout of not-eating that she did for a couple weeks.  I worry that if someone found her they would probably think she is abandoned and/or starved.

I am so heartbroken. I miss her so much every day.

If anyone on this site is in Davenport, FL or Polk County let me know and I will give you flyers if you want to post them.

I will post here if I hear anything.

Happy Birthday Misty!

Filed under: Uncategorized — ddmckenna at 11:46 am on Friday, May 29, 2015

Last Wednesday was Misty’s birthday. We celebrated with some chicken liver and a good brushing, since she is shedding like crazy.

I’ve been home instead of traveling for the past few weeks and that’s been very nice.

1 year

Filed under: Uncategorized — ddmckenna at 12:29 am on Saturday, March 28, 2015

Well, it’s been a year. Misty is doing great. It’s hard to remember sometimes that she is even missing a leg. She goes about her kitty-cat business as she always has but more hoppy than she used to.

She was diagnosed a month or so ago with a mild hyperthyroid problem, and is now on a tiny dose of methimazole twice a day. We were hoping that would fix her soft stool/litterbox problems, but it didn’imaget seems to help. The vet tried giving her a steroid shot; no effect. So finally I tried switching her food and she seems to be feeling better as far as her litterbox behavior, but things still don’t LOOK like they’re back to normal.

Wet Sink Kitty Says Happy New Year!

Filed under: Uncategorized — ddmckenna at 4:23 am on Friday, January 16, 2015

Just a quick hello and happy new year from Misty, who celebrated the turn of the year by snoozing soundly on the couch beside me while we played video games and stayed up very late.

The new job has been going great, and life in general is good – except Sunday my car broke down.  I’ve been getting rides to and from work, but it should be fixed tomorrow.  I think it might be time to start shopping for something newer.

In the mean time here’s a shot of Misty getting good and soggy while she enjoys a drink from the bathroom sink.  You should see her run to the sink and leap up there when I get up in the morning and she’s thirsty… you’d never believe she has fewer legs than the average cat!

Happy Turkey Day

Happy Thanksgiving from Sunbeam Kitty, who is grateful for sunshine, and canned cat food and soft places to sleep, and scritches under the chin, and obedient human servants who refill food bowls and turn on water faucets on command.

Happy Halloween!

Filed under: Uncategorized — ddmckenna at 8:58 pm on Saturday, November 1, 2014

Misty says Happy Halloween everyone! This Halloween was much happier than last year. Last year we spent Halloween at the vet’s office waiting to find out what the lump was on her leg. This year Misty slept while I played board games with some coworkers. I dressed as a devil and I let Misty try on my horns but she didn’t like them very much so I had to find her something else.

Misty's no devil.

Misty’s no devil.

Hope everyone is having a good October

Misty definitely is:

She was so sound asleep that I petted her and she didn't wake up. Little whiskers and paws twitching in her sleep. <3

We’ve got her litterbox troubles sorted out and she is feeling good.

Lazy Sunbeam Sunday

Filed under: Uncategorized — ddmckenna at 11:14 pm on Sunday, August 31, 2014

After a killer week and a super busy Saturday, the whole household is chilling today. Misty is occupying sunbeams while she waits for the rabbits I’ve got in the crockpot to be done. We humans had breakfast sandwiches for dinner made on an electric griddle while watching Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Now I think I’ll finish some artwork I’ve been working on while I watch a few episodes of Madmen.

Here’s my sweet little sunbeam girl:

I love how the light shines through her eyes.

Sprawled with her one little front paw sticking out. 🙂

What a face. I think the mottling on her little nose is very cute. But from photos I see that it was all grey when she was a kitten. I wonder how she got the pink spots – I just remember noticing them one day.  I hope they’re not because of injuries or something.  She did get into a lot when she was young – I remember her hopping up on the stove once right after I took a pan off the burner. She leaped off again really fast. I checked her feet for burns but I couldn’t even find any singed fur. Maybe sometime later she stuck her nose somewhere it didn’t belong. I could picture her doing that. I suspect that she’s used up more of her nine lives than what the cancer ordeal used up. Most in-and-outdoor cats get into trouble we never find out about, I’m sure.
