Misty Grey

She has things to do, like occupying sunbeams, drinking out of the bathroom sink, and being beautiful – on four legs, or three!

Misty-Kitten Photos

I came across some old kitten photos of Misty and Alley – I was trying to verify the year of Misty’s birth for sure – it was 2000.  Here are some photos of both girls from 2000-2001.  Misty was always cat-shaped from the day I got her at 8 weeks old, but Alley was still little enough that she has a cute little kitten-belly in some of the photos.  None of these are all that fancy – it was just a little webcam that we used to take them I think.

Back here in good ol’ Upstate NY?

If you don’t mind me asking, where in Upstate were you? We lived in Albany for a couple of years, but moved about 20 minutes north for convenience. We’re looking to get back to “the city” soon. I don’t think Jay loved Albany as much as Yorrick and I did, but he certainly liked it better than the suburbs we’re in now.

I’ve lived and worked in the capital region of NY most of my life. Stillwater, Mechanicville, Ballston Spa, Ballston Lake. I’ve worked in Saratoga for most of the past ten years before we moved to FL, with a short stint in Albany. I miss the area but not Albany itself so much. There are some fun venues and cultural events and good dining in Albany, and it was nice sometimes to be able to just run out to the corner store when we needed something instead of drive ten minutes… But driving around and around the neighborhood trying to find a parking spot when you get home from work, and getting up at yuck o-clock to move your car out of the dry cleaners’ parking spot before they open… Not my cup of tea. Which suburb are you in – Clifton Park?

Wow, I just disappeared for like a week, there, didn’t I?

I totally miss corner store convenience. We lived in listening distance from Valentine’s for a little over 2 years, so we were really in the thick of it in Albany. We could walk to Lark, on a nice day we could walk to Pearl. Washington Park was practically our backyard, which was soooo nice for the dog. Tulipfest was a HEADACHE though!! Thankfully, the only time we had to move our car was for Wednesday/Thursday street cleaning. They have permit parking in that neighborhood now. We would have to pay $25 per year per car to park in front of our own apartment. No thanks.

We live in Cohoes now. I actually live in the house my grandfather and father grew up in. My brother is my landlord. We have a couple of acres because my parents live behind us and own a lot of land. We also have a nice big driveway!! We just don’t have Pietro’s Cucina at one end of our block and Dino’s pizza at the other end. If we run out of TP, we have to drive to the store instead of walk a block to CVS. If I’m craving ice cream, Stewarts is also a drive away instead of across the street. My brother does own a bar in walking distance, and it’s far less frat-brother-Albany-douchbag-like than what I would walk to when living in Albany, but it’s also a bit more of a walk and less scenic.

I also get funny looks when I sit on my stoop. I miss sitting out on my stoop with the dog in Albany and people walking by and starting up a conversation, or even just saying, “Hi!”

I think the attitude differences you’re finding are all pretty much due to Cohoes not being a college town… the talkative friendliness as well as the bar scene in Albany are definitely due to the colleges.
